on American Dream’s pizza.

davidroy:

This is a great idea. I think I’ve been to every one of those places at some point, save for Mellow Mushroom. Glad you got American Dream—it’s definitely not the best pizza in PDX, nor my fave style, but it holds a special place in our household. It was my first meal after Hannah was born (some 30 hours after she was born, so I was hella hungry—it’s across the street from Providence Medical Center), and it’s a place that the girls and I have sat in probably 30 or 40 times. Plus, they always have Ninkasi Tricerahops on tap, and it’s a screaming deal.

God, the American Dream pizza (the “Goddess Athena”) was SO FRUSTRATING. Thicker and more-bread like crust (good, though), really fresh toppings, BUT NO SAUCE AT ALL UNTIL YOU HIT THE END OF THE SLICE. The worst part is that their red sauce is really good! It’s all out of balance, though.

Great story, though. I’d imagine anything after 30 hours without eating, particularly during such a life-changing event as the birth of a child, will taste like the best thing you’d ever eaten.
