Because Cuba is so stable …

No kidding. I guess they also forgot that Fidel Castro isn’t in power anymore and his brother Raul is running things. Not that this is an improvement, but the whole Arab Spring/Cuban Spring comparison is also buillshit because it has been in our best interest to stay the fuck away from the Arab Spring as possible rhetorically and diplomatically so as not to fuel theories that we’re behind it all by the ruling dictatorships.

Chile, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia…ugh. There’s an old saying I learned on my first day of Latin American history — Latin America lies too far from God and too close to the United States, and it’s true in every sense of the word.

The Monroe Doctrine isn’t really necessary any longer. Can we stop pretending it is?
