thelovehater asked: I wonder though...if the subject of Shame put the voters off based on the fact that it is something that is like present & real. And this movie is just so raw - sex scenes aside - they are not pretty to look at. Personally the opening scene felt very clinical and guarded. He orders sex like a pizza. He's spiraling out of control and his rock bottom. There was a moment when he throws out all his porn (as if to say he's done). You don't see him feel "Shame" until the end. Very heavy subject.

well, there’s also that. The sex in Shame isn’t glamorized in any sense, and it’s really the focal point of the movie since it’s his addiction. Plus, I’d be willing to bet the voters are loath to give any plaudits these days to NC-17 films. Hollywood suffers enough bad press with the annual bitch-fest of “no one’s actually heard of these fucking movies!”

  1. thelovehater said: It was good that we didn’t really have that “what movie is that?” moment. It tells us that the public as a whole is starting to watch good films on top of the usual dumbed down comedy. Personally Fassbender could have been nom’d for Jane Eyre.
